At the most recent DevDay, OpenAI unveiled a new addition to the ChatGPT platform called “ChatGPT Space.” This feature is described as a shared workspace that lets users collect files and content generated by ChatGPT, teammates, and Dots agents in a single location. Space is initially available to subscribers of the Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans, and can be accessed through a web browser as well as the desktop application. The company noted that a mobile version will be released later after internal testing is completed. The announcement is part of OpenAI’s broader effort to extend AI capabilities into everyday productivity environments. The feature aims to enable teams to organise documents, project files, and conversation logs within a unified environment, thereby reducing reliance on external tools. In turn, organisations can cut the time spent switching between applications.

What Is a Space?

OpenAI defines a “Space” as a shared digital area where all items produced by the AI or added by users are stored. Colleagues can upload PDFs, Word documents, images, or even code snippets, while the “Dots” agent contributes summaries or recommendations based on data analysis. All items appear in a single interface that supports instant search and filtering by type or date. The feature also allows link sharing with people outside the organisation, with configurable access levels (read‑only or edit). This lets teams work on a single project without having to store files across multiple cloud services. Additionally, every version of a file is saved automatically, giving users the ability to revert to previous versions if an unintended change occurs. Commenting is built directly into documents, so teams can discuss specific details without resorting to external communication channels.

Pages: Collaborative Content Creation

The “Pages” tool is an add‑on that integrates with the workspace, allowing users to write text, draw diagrams, and insert images collaboratively in real time. Multiple people can edit the same document simultaneously, with changes appearing instantly and each editor’s identity displayed. Pages supports advanced text formatting such as numbered lists, tables, and hyperlink insertion. Moreover, the AI can suggest linguistic or design improvements, speeding up the preparation of formal documents or initial drafts. Everything created is saved automatically in the Space linked to the project. The AI can also propose suitable images or icons for the text and generate spreadsheets automatically from entered data. Pages integrates with other cloud storage services, making it easy to import existing files.

Slides: What to Expect

OpenAI announced that the “Slides” feature will be available within a few weeks, enabling users to create presentations directly inside the workspace. The AI can generate slides based on the content of documents or notes stored in a Space, offering visually appropriate design suggestions. The tool will support exporting presentations to both PowerPoint and Google Slides formats, allowing seamless sharing with traditional systems. Exported files will retain the original slide formatting, including images and charts created within Pages. A set of ready‑made templates will be provided to accelerate slide preparation, such as annual report or product‑launch templates. Users will also be able to customise colours and fonts to match corporate branding, and a simple transition‑effect option will be available.

macOS Meeting Tool

To boost productivity, OpenAI introduced a meeting tool integrated with macOS that records audio during calls and then converts it into summarized text and action items. After processing, the audio file is automatically deleted to ensure privacy. The extracted notes appear in the user’s Space, where teams can review them and assign required tasks. This workflow reduces the time spent manually writing meeting minutes while preserving a searchable written record. The speech‑to‑text conversion relies on large‑language‑model technology, delivering high accuracy in extracting key points. Summaries are emailed automatically to participants, with the option to link them to tasks in project‑management tools.

OpenAI also launched a “Private Intelligence” layer to provide additional approval mechanisms and data protection inside Spaces. According to speakers at DevDay, this layer lets organisations define precise access policies and log every edit or share action. The company did not disclose technical implementation details, such as whether end‑to‑end encryption or internal audit logs are used. OpenAI indicated that the layer will support data‑retention policies aligned with international standards like GDPR and CCPA, and will allow the creation of audit logs that compliance teams can review. This component is still under development, but the announcement signals OpenAI’s intent to meet growing security requirements in business environments.

With the launch of Spaces, Pages, and the upcoming Slides, ChatGPT evolves from a simple conversational assistant into a full‑featured work platform that enterprises can rely on for document coordination, presentation preparation, and meeting documentation. Paid‑plan subscribers can now experience a unified environment that reduces the need for third‑party applications, potentially lowering licensing costs and improving team efficiency. Teams can create a new Space from within the ChatGPT interface, designate which members have access, and then start uploading documents or requesting AI assistance in drafting content. These steps bring the work experience closer to an integrated office suite and lessen dependence on multiple disparate tools. Currently, organisations on Pro, Business, or Enterprise plans can try the feature via the web or desktop app, with mobile support expected in the near future.
