Apple puts Siri AI at the center of the home

Apple has introduced HomeView, a connected-home hub with a 7-inch display starting at $299 in the United States. The company presents the device as a shared household screen that combines entertainment, communication and smart-home management, with Siri AI serving as its central interface. Pre-orders have started in selected markets, and availability is scheduled for November 13.

The launch is Apple’s first product introduction outside the iPhone range since John Ternus became chief executive in early September, according to CNBC. Apple also announced a new Apple TV 4K and updated HomePod Mini hardware at the same event. The group is therefore expanding its home portfolio while making its recently introduced Siri AI capabilities more visible in a physical product.

A screen for shared and personal uses

Apple says HomeView can sit on a table or be mounted on a wall. Its tabletop version combines a 7-inch Liquid Retina display with a speaker base, while a separate wall-mounted model offers the same display and feature set. The company positions the product for spaces such as kitchens, entryways, hallways, bedside tables and side tables.

The device recognizes up to six people by their faces, Apple says. That recognition is intended to switch the interface from a shared household view to a personal experience. Users can receive content from Messages, FaceTime, Calendar, Reminders and Find My, while shared albums and music remain available to the household and guests.

Apple says HomeView adjusts the information shown according to how far away a person is standing. It can show simpler information from across a room and more detailed content at closer range. The screen also has automatic brightness and True Tone technology, according to the company. HomeView is available in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray, while the wall-mounted version is offered in silver and space gray.

Siri AI becomes the product’s main interface

The new hub is designed to showcase Siri AI, Apple’s new version of its assistant. Apple describes Siri AI as more conversational and capable, with broad world knowledge, onscreen awareness and an ability to use personal context when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.

According to Apple, users can start a conversation with Siri on HomeView and continue it on another Apple device through the Siri app. The company says iCloud privately synchronizes the conversation history across compatible products, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro. Users can customize Siri’s voice pace and expressiveness on a paired compatible device, with those preferences carrying over to HomeView.

Apple says people without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad can still use Siri AI’s broad knowledge, natural conversations and music-discovery functions on HomeView. The company also says that the assistant can surface relevant information from apps and take actions across apps when it has access to a user’s personal context through a compatible paired device.

Entertainment, calls and household controls

HomeView includes a built-in speaker system and supports Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple News, Apple TV and compatible third-party audio and video apps, according to Apple. The tabletop model has two full-range drivers in the display, a down-firing woofer and passive radiators in the base. Apple says its computational audio system continuously adjusts loudness and bass response.

The device can also make FaceTime calls and operate as a digital photo frame. Apple says its Photos face can display shared albums, while other display modes provide glanceable information or animated visual experiences. These functions are intended to make the screen useful even when no smart-home control is being requested.

HomeView is also a dashboard for connected devices. Apple says users can view camera feeds, adjust a thermostat, lock connected doors and manage notifications and automations through voice control. Setting up a new smart-home device requires one tap from an iPhone, according to the company.

  • HomeView starts at $299 in the United States.
  • The new Apple TV 4K costs $299.
  • The refreshed HomePod Mini costs $149.
  • HomeView supports recognition for up to six users.

Privacy claims and ecosystem strategy

Apple is emphasizing privacy in its presentation of the new home range. The company says its Apple Home Collection accessories encrypt data so that only users and people they choose to share with can see it. Jennifer Kent, principal analyst at Parks Associates, told CNBC that Apple was going beyond many other companies on privacy and security protections.

The strategy also reinforces Apple’s broader ecosystem. CNBC noted that households using several Apple products and services may be less likely to switch to an Android smartphone. HomeView connects Siri AI, iPhone and iPad personal context, entertainment services, FaceTime and connected-home controls in a single household device.

Apple’s Wearables, Home and Accessories category, which includes Apple TV, HomePod, AirPods and Apple Watch, reported $7.88 billion in sales in the quarter ended in June, according to CNBC. That represented about 7% of Apple’s total revenue. CNBC also reported that investors remain especially focused on iPhone sales, making the home products less central financially than Apple’s flagship handset.

Availability excludes the European Union

Apple says HomeView will be available from November 13 in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Singapore has a later pre-order date, while South African customers can order through Apple Authorized Resellers. Siri AI on HomeView is initially available in English in those listed markets. Canadian French support is planned later through a free software update.

HomeView will not be sold in the European Union because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS there, Apple says. The company says it is working constructively with the European Union to find a path forward. Apple has also announced Schneider Home mounting options for the wall-mounted model, with prices beginning at $59.95 in the United States.

For businesses and organizations in English-speaking markets, the launch creates a new Apple-controlled screen for connected-home services, entertainment applications and compatible devices. Companies considering support for HomeView will need to account for its Siri AI availability, Apple ecosystem requirements and the fact that the product is not currently offered in the European Union.
